The budget meeting was called to order at 6:32pm, and the board spent the first few minutes reviewing any changes that had been made to the preliminary budget. It was concluded that the proposed budget was five percent over last years and four percent over the tax cap.
One increase in the budget was the amount of money being asked by the Copenhagen Fire Department. Last year, the town granted the Fire Department $11,440 and this year, the town is being asked to give $11,900.

The main reason for the increase is their need for new handheld radios in order to stay up to date and in sync with the County. Portable Handheld Radios cost $4500 per radio and the Department needs 12. The Copenhagen Fire Department has applied for grants through FEMA; however, they have not heard anything back yet. Other equipment that needs to be purchased this year is turnout gear which are roughly $2500 per set, gloves alone being $225. Grants have been applied for to assist with these purchases as well. While the Fire Departments Workman’s Comp did drop over $12,000 due to a member’s death, the money is still needed. Money that the department receives from the towns can only be used for personnel.

The town of Pinckney is hoping for windmills to come into the area, as that would bring in some money to the town. Currently, there are windmills going up soon in Denmark and Lowville; however, test drilling is being done in the town of Pinckney.

Also discussed was that the Town is looking for a Zoning Board member, a Board of Assessment Review member, and possibly a Dog Control officer.

The budget meeting was adjourned at 7:06pm.
